The arrest of Michael Vick:
He was a star quarterback in the NFL, after playing college football at Virginia Tech. Michael Vick placed third in Heisman Trophy balloting in his freshman year and left school after his sophomore year to turn pro.
Vick was the first overall pick by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2001 NFL draft.
He led the Falcons to the playoffs twice and was selected to three Pro Bowls.
The trouble started in April 2007 when he was implicated in an illegal interstate dogfighting ring…
…that had been in operation for five years.
After pleading guilty to federal felony charges, Vick served 21 months in prison followed by two months of home confinement. He also filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in July 2008
The Falcons released and he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles…
…and was reinstated 2009 season
He became the Eagles number one quarterback in 2010 and was named NFL comeback player of the year. A year later, he led the Eagles to the 2011 Playoffs as the NFC East champions.
His rehabilitation continued when he signed with the New York Jets as a backup quarterback.
