Los Angeles native Darryl Strawberry played for a number of other teams…
… and was also well known for his controversial personal life
Among the charges against him: failing to make child support payments in 1995 and soliciting sex from an undercover policewoman posing as a prostitute and for having a small amount of cocaine in Tampa in 1999. He pleaded no contest and drew 21 months' probation along with community service.
Once again in Tampa, in 2000, Darryl tried to drive to visit his probation officer after taking pain killer. He blacked out and rear ended another car and then tried to flee. He was arrested at gunpoint by an off duty police officer who witnessed it.
Darryl owned up to it and his probation was changed to two years of house arrest. He also got a year probation and community service.
Nabbed for violating several non-drug rules at a Tampa treatment center in April 2001, Strawberry was sentenced to 22 months in prison and served 11 months.
Nevertheless, he's a member of the Mets' Hall of Fame.
