The arrest of Heidi Fleiss:

She was known as the Hollywood Madam, and morphed her role as the manager of a Los Angeles prostitution ring into a career as a media personality, working as a columnist and TV personality.

Heidi Lynne Fleiss was born and raised in LA and at age 22 began running hookers under a woman known as Madam Alex. She even turned tricks herself to learn the business from all the angles.

By 1990, Heidi parted with Madam Alex and started her own prostitution ring and claims she made her first million bucks after only four months in the business. She even began rejecting some of the girls who applied for work by 1991 and 1992. Her ring had several famous and rich clients but she refused to name anyone.

But it didn't last that long, because in June 1993, the law caught up with her and she was arrested on multiple charges. Federal charges were added in 1994 and Heidi had to post a million dollars in bail.

Convicted on state charges in 1994, it was overturned in 1996. But Heidi was nailed on federal tax evasion charges in September 1996 and was sentenced to seven years in prison. She served a twenty month sentence, and then was sent to a halfway house from which she was released in September 1999. She also had to perform some 370 hours of community service.
