The arrest of Joey Buttafuoco:
Here's the story of an auto body shop owner on Long Island who became notorious for having an affair with a 16-year-old named Amy Fischer…
…who was so taken with the older man that she went to confront his wife Mary Jo…
…and ended up shooting Mrs. Joey Buttafuoco in the face with a 25 caliber automatic pistol.
Mary Jo survived and identified Amy as her assailant, and in the ensuing media frenzy Amy was nicknamed the "Long Island Lolita."
Amy was convicted of assault and Buttafuoco was indicted on 19 counts of statutory rape, sodomy and endangering the welfare of a child. He denied it all at first but later owned up to having sex with Fisher when she was 16 saying that he didn't know her age.
Joey pleaded guilty to one count of statutory rape…
…and served about two-thirds of a 6 month jail sentence.
Once out of prison, he and Mary Jo moved to California, where she filed for divorce in February, 2003
However, he played off of his notoriety and appeared several times on all forms of media. His case was parodied on late night TV shows, like "Late Night with David Letterman" and "Saturday Night Live"
Buttafuoco also appeared on celebrity boxing…
...and was reunited with Amy for the coin toss in 2006 for a show called "The Lingerie Bowl."
Joey and Amy also teamed up in this 2012 interview.
Joey also appeared on TV's "As the World Turns" and appeared in a few films, including "Finding Forrester."
