The arrest of Ted Kaczynski:
This mathematician racked up his numbers of notoriety as a serial killer. Known for social critiques opposing modern technology and industrialism, he did his dirty work by planting or mailing homemade bombs, killing three people and injuring 23 others.
Growing up in Evergreen Park, Illinois, Theodore John Kaczynski was a child prodigy and gained acceptance to Harvard University at the age of 16.
While he was at Harvard, he was one of 22 students who were exposed to experiments measuring responses to extreme stress.
After receiving a PhD in mathematics at the University of Michigan, he was only 25 when he began working as an assistant professor at the University of California, Berkley in 1967. However, he quit two years later and by 1971 Kaczynski moved to a remote cabin in Lincoln, Montana, without running water or electricity.
While he was there, from 1978 to 1995, he sent 16 bombs to targets including universities and airlines.

The focus of one of the FBI's most expensive investigations, the case was code named UNABOM, short for "University and Airline Bomber".
Recognizing the bomber's beliefs and writing style, Kaczynski's sister-in-law and brother tipped off the FBI; Kaczynski was tracked down and arrested while living in his Montana cabin...
…and was charged with ten counts of illegally transporting, mailing and using bombs.
While his lawyers tried to enter an insanity defense, Kaczynski refused and pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole and is serving his term at the federal Supermax prison in Florence, Colorado.
